So the first thing you are going to want to do is really take a step back and look at the platforms your are on. I usually recommend being on every platform but sometimes that isn’t always possible. Just make sure you are in the places you need to be. If your target audience is 13 to 25 YO then you need to be on Snapchat. I don’t care if you don’t like the platform or whatever your excuse is… you need to be there.

You need to ask yourself 3 questions:

1.Who is your target audience?

2.Where do they live?

3.What do they consume?


So once you have accounts created on the platforms you absolutely need to be on then its time to take a look at their appearances. The profile picture on all accounts should be crisp, clear, and compelling. This sounds obvious but I cant tell you how many people I have had to explain this to.


Take note I have noticed that sometimes a human being on a company page is more effective so you may want to try adding a face instead of a logo to your profile pic.

Make Sure your profile pictures are sized right. The average size for a face book profile picture should be around 180x180p but you can do a google search to find out what size for all the other platforms you need.


Next take a look at your profile banners. Same with these you are in 2018 these pictures need to be super clean clear and to the point. Make sure these are sized right as well. Facebooks recommended size is 851x315p and twitters is 1500x500p…..


Also here is a bit of gold. I have noticed higher conversion rates when you put a CTA pointer in the banner. Example being an arrow in the banner pointing down to the ‘Sign Up’ button on your page maybe with even a bit text beside the arrow. You get the idea, try it out.


Ok now its time to look at your bios. I have noticed that short bios tend to work the best for me and my clients. You want them to be short and to the point and if you can, try and add a bit of personality into it. Whether its humor heart touching.


Now you want to check and see if you are highly interactable. Meaning leave a bread crumb trail to all the other platforms you are on. Just because you like “twitter” the best doesn’t mean that your audience does.

Let people be able to find and follow you across all platforms and lastly if you can add a website to your profile dont forget to fill that out as well.


Lets move on to the content on your page. Its funny how many business owners cant figure out why people arent engaging with their profiles and then I look at their page and every single post is a sales post. “Our burger is the best in Los Angeles. Stop in today and get 10% off”.


This is great for people who are already in love with your product but horrible for trying to attract new customers. You need to keep your content around the 85 to 15% rule. 85% of your content should be valuable to your target audience in some way.


Whether you are displaying personality, building brand, or being informative. You need to give value 85% of the time. This builds leverage and gives you an opening or space into the audiences mind when you are ready to launch that 15% banger.

I am going to go into an episode on a bunch of different ways you can provide value and create good content in one of the upcoming videos. So stay tuned.


But for this episode just take a step back and look. Does your page communicate things like trust, honesty, authenticity, transparency… because this is what you need to stimulate TRUST.

Take a look at 5 of your top competitors in your specific niche and compare your profiles now. ARE YOU NOW A COMPETITOR? If not look for what you need to change.


Lastly take social media seriously everyone because although its built for fun and most all social platforms usually age up. Meaning the youth of our society defines them and then the older generations follow. But the point of the matter is around 90% of people are on some sort of social media. You need to be there and put yourself in front of them to connect, and build that relationship.

Even if I can change one persons mind to take social media more serious from here on out I will feel accomplished.

I feel like business owners and marketers alike want to believe that they can do every single aspect and angle of everything when that can be the truth but its definitely not always the most profitable way.

It comes down to weighing out your options. Is the cost to outsource more or less valuable than the amount of time it will take to learn and adapt the set of skills you require. Sometime doing a little research into something to get a grasp is OK when you are already a B or C player in that general area of expertise. The other times you are just going to put off finishing a project or creating the best results while trying to learn something that will take way too much time and your potential revenue will expire. When you could have hired someone and been creating a flow of revenue that you now do not have. Also I dont like to tell you that you have boundaries because I do believe this is a sort of flaw in perspective to a certain degree. I believe that you can do “most” anything you would like to do but you have to understand that there is a very real learning curve to over come which does cost time. I do hate to put limitations on peoples ability to perform but in reality there are certain genetic boundaries. (more…)
